Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk Mod

In line with the growing demand for regulated squonking devices, Hcigar have released their latest edition to the squonk market. Hcigar Aurora 80W 21700 Squonk MOD – a regulated squonk mod that employs a compact and ergonomic design. It has been cleverly designed to be compatible with a single 21700/18650/20700 battery, which can all be installed without the need for any form of adaptor. Just a flick of a switch.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModWhat’s more, the Aurora 80W 21700 Squonk MOD also features the high-definition screen, which is powered by the Towis XT80C chipset.

Up close and Personal

The Aurora, is not only compact, but has exceptional clean sharp lines.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModThe mod body is neatly sandwiched between two Aluminium doors, all coated in a high quality brushed painted finish, with has a really nice grain to it.

The corners of the box, have been chopped, to create a sort of stretched hexagonal shape, which feels great in your hand.

510 Connection

Unlike most mods, Hcigar have gone for a Stainless squared off base plate, with quite a shallow Gold Plated 510 Squonk pin. Which although shallow, works perfectly with all of the Squonk RDAs that I installed.

The Aurora features easy to read 0.96-inch TFT colour screen and runs the XT80c chipset. The Aurora also supports the various working modes of VW and TC. The triple adjustment buttons allow you to alter your various settings and enter the menu function.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModOpen The Front Door

The Aurora front panel has a nice large well finished cut out, to allow for Squonking. Although the cut out is quite large, you may like me find that after Squonking, you end up with a door shaped ring on your thumb. In my opinion, the four small magnets that hold the door in place aren’t quite strong enough and you can easierly catch it with you thumb.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModThe battery compartment, is very neat and tidy, with ample room to install you 7ml juice bottle, witch literally, and easterly slides onto the juice tube. And if like me you will find it virtually impossible to install without spilling juice out the top. (Normally, because I have over filled the Squonk bottle). Personally I prefer using the firmer black bottle, as I find it easier to install, and generally SQUONKR better.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk Mod

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModThe real magic happens when you remove the back panel, revealing the battery slider, which very cleverly transforms the mod from taking a 18650 to taking a 20700/21700.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModSliding across a raised block to allow for the smaller batteries to be installed. With zero rattle. A real masterpiece of design, as I have lost count of the amount of battery adaptors that I seem to have lost over the years.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModMenu Functions

The Aurora runs in both Temperature and Wattage mod. The control of both is about the same.

  • To operate the menu press the menu button and the wattage is highlighted
  • You can use the two adjustment buttons to scroll the different settings in VW mode
  • By pressing the menu button again the setting will change colour and you will then be able to change that setting i.e. puff strength soft, normal, powerful.
  • There is a sub menu that allows you to change your screen off, brightness, auto off and language there is also an option for you to see information about the product as well as resetting it back to the factory default.

Strangely, There is no off option with this mod, the best you can do is either pull your battery, set the auto off, or as I do just lock the fire button, to prevent accidental firing ,to lock the Aurora simple clicking the fire button 5X to lock and 5X to unlock.

Performance and Every Day Vaping

The Aurora is a very impressive little Squonking, which delivers a great Vaping Experience, with ample power range, and very little ramp up time.

I did find the menu a little tricky to master, but does take to long to get used to.

Hcigar Aurora 80W Squonk ModI found the whole Squonking experience on the Aurora improved when I switch out the bottle, and installed the firmer black plastic bottle, I just don’t really get on with the soft Silicone. And have got so used the bottle in my Geekvape GBOX, every time I use the super soft silicone ones I end up over Squonking. But the great thing is they give you the choice.

I find that the larger 20700 battery lasts me a good few hours at around 50w, but as you start getting down to about 1/4 left the performance drops right off, so your defiantly going to need to take some spare batteries with you. (Always carry batteries in secure battery box, never in you pocket.)
