Hugsvape Theseus RDA

Introduction:

Sup vapers, Anthony Vapes here again. Today we’ll talk about the Hugsvape Theseus RDA.

The Theseus RDA is the first RDA from new manufacturer Hugsvape. Their first atomizer was the Lotus RTA which I reviewed and loved and this is their second one. They are also working on their third one which is a MTL RTA named the Chalice. The Theseus RDA is a single coil 22mm RDA with squonk pin and a unique airflow. It’s available in 3 colors SS, Black, and Gunmetal.

Initial Impressions of Hugsvape Theseus RDA

When I first got this RDA, I was pretty impressed with it since it felt more different in a good way than any other RDA I’ve tried recently. The V airflow is pretty nice and makes lining up your coil pretty easy. The build deck is a standard postless deck, it kind of reminds me of the Loop RDA but for single coil in a way. It also has a really nice juice well simple design and a bullet type shape to it. Overall I was pretty happy with it from the start

Hugsvape Theseus RDABuild Deck and Wicking

Let’s talk about the build deck now. The short description is it’s a postless deck which personally I love. You will have to precut your leads like most postless decks so may not be the best for new builds but other then that very easy to build on.

The screws come in from the side so won’t bend flat wire leads like fused claptons. The screws they use are good quality flat head grub screws and include a spare set as well. Overall, easy build deck to build on and I really liked it as I do love postless decks but they aren’t always the easiest for new builders so keep that in mine.

Hugsvape Theseus RDAWicking on it is quite easy. It’s an RDA so nothing fancy just drop your leads to the bottom. The build deck is quite high up so your cotton leads will be a bit longer than on most RDAs.

Hugsvape Theseus RDA Performance

Performance wise, I used it as a single coil RDA only as intended. I ran 4 builds in this a fancy 3 mm ID build, a fancy 3.5 mm ID build, a fancy 4 mm ID build and 1 simple round 3 mm ID build. I also changed the heights of each build starting it up high and dropping it lower little by little.

Personally I found the best height to be where the top of the coil lines up around the top of the build deck but it is pretty forgiving on heights where a little higher or lower doesn’t really make a big difference.

You don’t need to be too anal about coil height on this one. For size I found it best with a 4 mm ID and as many wraps as you can fit comfortable with the wire you are using.

Overall, I found it to be good flavorwise with the round wire but it really excelled with the fancy wires having above average flavor. The flavor in this is great but it really does like a big build to get the most from it as it’s not a restricted lung hit by any means. I found it to be overall above average for a medium to high watt single coil RDA, somewhere in the 40-60 watt range. I really enjoyed the flavor from this RDA.

Overall Impressions, Details, and Extras

Let’s talk about the airflow now. It has side airflow 1 hole on each side. These holes channel the air to the deck where it’s split into 18 small holes (9 on each side) right under the coil making it more of a bottom airflow RDA than the outside look suggests it’s kind of a side/bottom if I had to describe it. The AFC is very easy to adjust. It has a 2 piece top cap. The bottom piece locks into place on the deck to line up the air holes and the top piece acts as the AFC so very easy to turn it to adjust the air but isn’t on a stopper.

Hugsvape Theseus RDA

It comes with 2 standard 810 friction fit delrin drip tips that match the design of the RDA quite well. Both o-ring drip tips and friction of your own will fit well with it. The drip tip is a little snugger than I’d like personally but not too bad.

They claim it comes with a 510 adapter as well but I didn’t get one in my sample so not sure if it will or won’t. The quality on the Hugsvape Theseus RDA is pretty good. The o-rings all feel right and the top cap is snug but not tight. Very easy to take apart with no issues.

The post screw is good quality as well and 2 spare screws are included. No complaints about the quality. It comes with a standard 510 pin and a BF 510 pin like most RDAs these days.

Hugsvape Theseus RDAThe juice well is nice and large due to the raised up deck on this RDA and tall wall of the bottom deck part. On top of that it’s pretty much impossible to over squonk. You’d have to try really hard to over squonk it. I love the over squonk protection and juice well on this.

Due to the deck design however, you can’t drip right down the middle as a dripper. If you do it’ll come out of the air holes and not reach the juice well. Even taking the top part of the top cap off won’t allow you to really drip or access the juice well. You can paint your coil and that’s about it. You need to take the top cap completely off to drip and fill up the well and paint the coil a little. For that reason I don’t think it works well as a dripper and is best used as a squonker.

It’s a 22 mm diameter so should not overhang on most mods on the market today. There is plenty of spare o-rings and 2 spare post screws  for it, and a screwdriver tool. A coil or 2 and a piece of cotton would have been nice to include in my opinion. Branding is very simple. Nothing on the outside at all. Juice a pretty basic looking RDA which I like personally.

Conclusion

So with all that said, do I recommend Hugsvape Theseus RDA? I don’t like to do a hard yes or no, and i’m going to split this up a little. I’m going to lean towards the no as a dripper however as a squonker I’m going to lean heavily towards the yes. For a first RDA from a new company I’m very impressed with this one. New squonkers should find it very easy to refill without over squonking and the flavor is great if you build it big and still not bad with simple builds as well but it really shines with bigger builds.

I started vaping in late 2011 to quit chewing tobacco. over the past few years i got a lot more into the hobby side and buying and collecting a lot of gear. Fed up with the lack of good fair reviews i decided to start doing reviews late 2016 and haven’t looked back. I enjoy providing people with technical reviews that are fair and unbiased and from a place of knowledge to help them spend their money wisely.
