How to quit smoking with E-Cigs?
This is a question vapers and reviewers get asked all the time! Literally, not a week goes by where somebody has contacted me to find out the best mod to quit smoking with or how to even start with an e-cigarette.
First things first, this is from my own experience from when I quit smoking with my first e-cig. Start off by looking at the number of cigarettes you smoke in a day and then pair this number to the strength of e-liquid. That should give you the highest chance of success when it comes to quitting.
Up to 5 cigarettes a dayUp to 10 cigarettes a dayUp to 20 cigarettes a dayUp to 30 cigarettes a dayUp to 40 cigarettes a day
E-liquid nicotine strength:
Suitable for people smoking:
3mg/ml or 0.3% (Very low)
6mg/ml or 0.6% (Low)
12mg/ml or 1.2% (Medium)
18mg/ml or 1.8% (High)
20mg/ml or 2.0% (Very high)
There is, of course, the 0mg option that contains no nicotine at all. For me, this was not the best option. For those of you outside the EU, there are also higher strengths available in both normal nicotine liquids and in nicotine salts too.
Personally, I started with 12mg as I was smoking around 20 cigarettes a day.
Those Early Days
Not everyone will quit smoking from day one but if an e-cig helps you halve your daily intake for a week. Then half the next, before finally quitting then so be it. I went straight to no cigarettes from day one but it was not easy. Although easier than any patch, pill or spray I had ever tried. The hardest part was getting my head around the fact the e-cig was my new cigarette! That was tough, but after maybe 2 or 3 days it became normal.
Finding a flavour that you enjoy is key to the success I feel, cigarettes, let’s face it, taste foul. I am glad that does not come in eliquid form! Some people prefer to stick with tobacco flavours others want fruits or desserts. Black Cherry and a custard flavour were the first flavours I went for and stuck with them for a long time.
That was until I discovered the whole vaping world that there was out there! Then I fell into the rabbit hole and wanted to try more and more! That was part of the fun and almost a reward for quitting smoking in the first place!
A big mod or a pen mod?
The truth is, it’s not a race to see who has the biggest mod, puffs the biggest clouds or what your device looks like. The very fact that you achieved your smoke-free goal already made you a winner!
Start small and work up, a more powerful mod will need a lower strength e-liquid ( or it will hurt and you will cough )! Getting your intake of nicotine to satisfy your craving is important in the early days so a smaller device like a pod mod or simple e-cig is a good place to start.
You can always have a sub-ohm device on standby for those in-between moments when you want more flavour and less of a nicotine hit. There is no problem with that.
With the smaller e-cigs like the ego pens with the clear flavour is not the best, for these fruity flavours work better but you will want a more powerful device if you really want flavour heaven.
Do not be afraid to ask questions, or try a friends device to see how it feels for you. There is a massive community on all of the social media channels with people ready to help, advise and encourage you on your vaping journey. Normal people who get a kick out of people succeeding and staying off the stinkies for good!
