Stoptober – The Perfect Time to Make the Switch
With October just around the corner, there has never been a better time to give up smoking and make the switch to vaping. Stoptober, the 28-day stop smoking campaign from Public Health England, is back on October 1st.
Stoptober has driven over 1 million quit attempts to date and is the biggest mass quit attempt in the country. It is based on research that shows if you can stop smoking for 28-days, you are five times more likely to stay smoke-free for good.
There is a lot of ways to quit and Stoptober can help people choose what works for them. Stoptober offers a range of free support to help people on their quitting journey including an app, daily emails, Facebook Messenger and lots of encouragement from the Stoptober online community on Facebook. In addition, people can get expert face-to-face advice from local stop smoking services.
Those who use stop smoking aids and who get face-to-face support from their local stop smoking service are up to four times more likely to quit successfully.
Since 2012, when Stoptober was first launched, many people have chosen to vape as their preferred method to stop smoking. Unlike other nicotine replacements, vaping allows for a gradual transition and reduction of nicotine over time. Many people also find that vaping is the closest sensation to actually smoking, as many people find this one of the hardest things, apart from craving nicotine, it’s what to do now to keep your hands busy.
In preparation for Stoptober, the best place to start would be your local vape shop. You can go in and have a chat with them. Some of them are even giving away the starter kit for free when you take in your last packet of stinky fags. They will kit you out with a simple-to-use starter kit, which will include everything you will need, Tank, Battery, Charging Cables and E-juice.
They will also be able to help you choose which nicotine strength you should start at, based on how many cigarettes you smoke. And they will let you try out many different E-juice flavors to allow you to find your perfect vape. Many people find that starting with a familiar tobacco flavored E-juice will help you make the transition.
Making The Switch
It’s really important to get a flavor you like, or you can pick a few flavors and use them as you see fit, so you don’t get bored of the same of flavor and find yourself being tempted back to the fags.
I would always recommend you spend a little bit more money on your starter kit. If you invest a bit more of your hard earned money, then you will be more likely to stick with it.
The other top tip would be having a spare vaping device, as most people tend to fail and reach for the fags when they get caught with a flat battery or they break their tank or need a new coil.
When I started vaping, I had spare setups everywhere, one in the car, one in my work bag and a couple in the house, so I always had one charged and ready to go.
You will find it helps if you see your transition from smoking to vaping as a journey. And when you get to the point that your starter kit can no longer satisfy your needs, it’s time to move onwards and upwards, an investment in another mod and tank, as you may find you are looking for more flavors or more vapors. The kit you start with isn’t going to be the kit you use for life.
Variety is the spice of life.
There are thousands of flavors for you to choose from, and once you have been vaping for a while, you’ll find that you want to move away from the Tobacco Vapes and experience some of the many flavors. You name it and there is a juice that tastes like it. Your local vape shop will have them all on hand for you to try.
As time goes by, most vapors find themselves being less and less dependant on the nicotine, and will reduce the strength that they vape. When I started I was on 18mg, then dropped down to 12mg, then 6, then 3mg within about 7mth. Some people end up going down to Zero Nicotine, and just continue vaping, just for the pleasure of vaping.
So what are you waiting for? Head on down to your local vape store, get ready for Stoptober and join the thousands of people making the switch.
