What is CBD?
CBD is a relatively new phenomenon that is taking the world by storm. Around 12 months ago I had never heard of CBD and if you mentioned “canabanoids” to me, I would have assumed that it was a type of Cannabis and therefore illegal.
This however is not true. Cannabis consists of up to 60 canabanoids but not all of them are on the controlled substances list. CBD (also known as Cannabidiol) is one of the compounds of Cannabis that is completely legal and has many health benefits to its users.
CBD is not to be mistaken with the psychoactive and banned substance THC (tetrahyrdocannabidol). This is the ingredient in Cannabis that gives that “high” feeling.
For many years I have struggled to sleep, and did not like the idea of taking sleeping tablets to “cure” this. I have always been the type of person to avoid chemical medicines if I have the choice. Having tried herbal and medicinal sleeping tablets in the past, I always found the lingered in my system long after their intended use.
This resulted in me having to find my own methods to sleep easy. I had tried everything with varying success, such as soaking in long baths, lavender on the pillow and even hypnosis audio to help me drift off. These would work to an extent but I often found they had a finite life of effectiveness.
My Initial Thoughts On CBD
Having heard the phrase a few times and getting past the initial shock that you could openly buy a derivative of Cannabis, I became curious and did some research into the benefits of CBD and how it worked. Claims of relaxation, pain relief and even cancer healing properties had me sceptical. How could a derivative of something so frowned upon as weed be so helpful?
I was so tempted to try it but the sceptic in me was not ready to part with the money that the CBD price tags boasted.
A few weeks ago I was approached by a company called CBD Guru who were looking to talk to me about becoming one of my sponsors. Having had the itch to try CBD before, this really peaked my interest.
As with all of my vaping eliquid, I wanted to ensure that the company I would be associating with were of a high standard and not a cowboy operation! More so than ever when looking at CBD as I was fairly new to this product and wanted to be certain that everything was above board.
After checking out CBD Guru I felt confident that they were a professional and respectable company , so I threw my hat in the ring and accepted their kind sponsorship! A few days later I took delivery of 2 x 10ml bottles of 300mg CBD e-liquid!
Being a complete novice at using CBD I decided to err on the side of caution with delivery. As these bottles were in short supply to me, I decided to opt for a very basic single coil RDA.
That allowed me to not waste any liquid and also ensure that it was not sat in a tank when not in use as I was unsure the effect this would have on the liquid.
In hindsight this was not the best idea, as my first vape of the liquid left me coughing like mad. “I’d better treat this with a little more respect!!” I thought to myself. After turning down the wattage and taking very small hits, it was much more manageable.
However in discovering this, I had taken 4 or 5 vapes without thinking about taking in too much!
Almost instantly I felt different than I had before vaping the CBD. I felt relaxed, calm and generally very chilled. Lying in bed I was trying to figure out if this effect was real or if it was a placebo. Shortly after thinking this I was certain that it was having an effect and it felt great. I was relaxed enough to lay still and soon drifted off into a nice sleep!
Waking up the next morning was when I realised I have over cooked it with the CBD though. I felt a little lethargic and groggy when waking up, but after a cup of coffee I was ready to take on the day
A few nights later I was feeling a little unwell (self inflicted I may add) and had been struggling with a headache and stomach ache all day. I tried the usual hangover cures but nothing seemed to be shifting it.
Ready for some well deserved sleep I decided to give the CBD another go and see if it allowed me to relax a little. Knowing that I had overdone it last time, I opted for one deep vape and put my mod away.
Within 30 seconds my headache was gone and my stomach felt great! To my absolute shock I felt normal!!! I genuinely couldn’t believe how well it had worked and how quickly too. Just that small amount enabled me to feel normal again and get the sleep my body craved! The next morning I woke up and I felt refreshed and normal again!
Since then I have been using the CBD when I am having trouble sleeping or I am feeling a little sore from the gym and every time it has relieved the issues that I have had, with almost instant effect!
Claims Of CBD
CBD claims to suppress and relieve many different ailments. As mentioned before I was very sceptical of these claims, but having experienced it myself I can wholeheartedly say that the claims are true!
Some of the main benefits of CBD are:
- Relieves Pain and Inflammation
- Relieves Nausea
- Promotes Mental & Physical Relaxation
- Reduces Anxiety
- Improves Cardiovascular health.
There are also claims that it can help with Seizures and even Cancer!
Being as sceptical as I am I found it very hard to believe that CBD could have so many impressive and bold effects. Having tried this for myself I can safely say that at least 3 of the above benefits are true.
I am fortunate enough that I do not need CBD daily , but when certain things arise and I become stressed, anxious or in physical pain I know that this wonder drug really does what it says on the tin!
A big thank you to CBD Guru for sponsoring me and allowing me to share this experience with everyone. My scepticism was unjust and I am on board with what CBD can do for me!
